WUKI OPENING CEREMONY

CHIEF:

Drum Beater! What are your duties and what do they mean?

DRUM BEATER:

I beat the drum to call the tribe together and to tell its members to come to order.

CHIEF:

Drum Beater! Beat the drum twice to open this council.

Drum beater beats the drum twice.

CHIEF:

Now beat the drum once for each member that is present.

Drum beater beats the drum once for each father and daughter present.

CHIEF:

Princesses! What is an Indian Princess?

GIRLS:

A girl with a Dad like mine!

CHIEF:

Tribe! What is the Slogan of the Indian Princesses?

ALL:

The Slogan is "Friends Always"!

CHIEF:

What is the Pledge of all Indian Princesses and their Big Braves?

ALL:

"We, father and daughter, through friendly service to each other, to our family, to this tribe, to our community, seek a world pleasing to the eye of the Great Spirit."

CHIEF:

O Great Spirit, as we gather for this council, be with us and guide us. Grant us wisdom and understanding. Help us to grow strong together as Family and Friends.

CHIEF:

This council is now open. We will pass the talking stick to each member. They will say their real name and their Indian name. Each will tell something good that they have done this past month. We will accept a donation of tribal wampum from all those who have done well.

WUKI CLOSING CEREMONY

CHIEF:

It is time for our closing ceremony. Drum Beater! Beat the drum twice to bring our council to order.

CHIEF:

This council has been good. I have seen us share friendship, love, and fun. But before we all leave tonight, I must be sure of something. I must be sure that we all understand why we were here. Can you tell me our Purpose?

ALL:

The purpose of the Y-Indian Princess Program is to foster the understanding and companionship between father and daughter.

CHIEF:

Can you tell me our Aims?

ALL:

These are the Aims of the Indian Princesses:

  1. To be clean in body and pure in heart.
  2. To be friends always with my father/daughter.
  3. To love the sacred circle of my family.
  4. To listen while others speak.
  5. To love my neighbor as myself.
  6. To seek and preserve the beauty of the Great Spirit's work in forest, field, and stream.

CHIEF:

You have spoken well. Go now and live accordingly.

CHIEF:
