Scholarship Program

As a matter of policy, the Indian Boundary YMCA and the Yomechas Federation will not turn families away due to inability to pay. Families experiencing temporary or long-term financial hardship may apply for reduction or waiver of YMCA fees and Yomechas Federation fees through our "scholarship" programs.

We realize that financial difficulties may be a source of embarrassment. When a family applies for relief, we strive to maintain discretion and confidentiality.

Applicant Procedures
  1. Pick up a fee waiver application form at the YMCA front desk.
  2. Fill out and return the form along with the required proof of income.
  3. A letter of approval (or disapproval) will be sent to the applicant.
  4. Once the letter of approval has been received by the applicant, it can be presented at the YMCA front desk when paying for services or it can be referenced by a tribe chief when paying for campout fees, event fees, or other services on behalf of the applicant.
  5. An approved fee waiver remains in effect for one year. A new request must be submitted each year.

If a scholarship letter is used to pay for services at the YMCA desk, be sure the payment receipt has an appropriate notation.

Internal Approval Procedures
The Indian Boundary YMCA and the Yomechas Federation are separate financial entities. Each makes an independent assessment of the amount of aid that can be rendered. Their determinations are based on the level of family hardship, the money available in the YMCA's scholarship fund and the money available in the Federation's scholarship budget.

  1. The Indian Boundary YMCA Operations Director reviews the application, and calculates the amount of any YMCA fees that will be waived.
  2. The application is routed to the Yomechas Federation's YMCA representative. The YMCA representative and one or more Yomechas officers review the application to determine the amount of aid that will be provided by the Federation.
  3. When the reviews and determinations are complete, the YMCA Operations Director produces the final letter of approval.
  4. One copy of the letter is sent to the applicant, the YMCA Operations Director retains one copy, the Federation's YMCA representative retains one copy, and a copy is sent to the Yomechas Treasurer.
Yomechas Federation is sponsored by the Indian Boundary YMCA, Downers Grove IL
