The Indian Boundary YMCA of Downers Grove Illinois
The Yomechas Federation's Adventure Guides program is sponsored by the Indian Boundary YMCA of Downers Grove Illinois.
Our Federation represents about 800 families in the Downers Grove area.
Our total membership numbers about 2000.
Our Federation is one of several hundred such organizations that operate out of YMCA branches throughout North America.
Most of the larger YMCA branches in North America sponsor the YMCA Adventure Guides program.
YMCA International
Ultimately, all local branches of the YMCA are members of the YMCA International organization.
YMCA International administers and promotes a number of family outreach programs.
Adventure Guides is one of those programs.
To learn more about the YMCA organization and its programs, you can visit their U.S. web-site at www.YMCA.net or their International Organization web-site at www.YMCA.int.
What Sponsorship Means
The relationship between the Indian Boundary YMCA and its Adventure Guides program is typical of most such affiliations.
One need not be a YMCA member to participate in our program, but the Indian Boundary YMCA does require a modest annual program fee from participants who are not regular YMCA members.
The YMCA provides some use of their facilities and some clerical assistance to our organization, but it does not directly operate the program.
Detailed program planning and execution is entirely the responsibility of the Yomechas Federation members.
We Are the Program
From the perspective of the YMCA, the Adventure Guides program is just a plan -- a concept really.
The YMCA provides books that establish the theme, describe how Circles should operate, and suggest program activities.
Ultimately though, the program is implemented by its own participants.
All service is voluntary.
There are no paid positions.
We operate as a not-for-profit entity.
Our modest membership dues simply cover basic expenses related to our annual events.
